Ministry of Transport, Communication, and Tourism Declares September as ‘Tourism Month’ in Suriname

The Ministry of Transport, Communication, and Tourism (TCT) has designated the month of September as ‘Tourism Month’ in Suriname. This commitment to tourism aims to preserve and promote the country’s values and cultural heritage.

The official kick-off of this special month will take place on September 1st, accompanied by the release of a Tourism Month Calendar.

Throughout September, Suriname will showcase its most welcoming side in the context of tourism. The decision to declare September as ‘Tourism Month’ is driven by the fact that September 27th is marked as World Tourism Day. During the entire month, the country’s landmarks and attractions will be highlighted and presented to both the local and international community.

Jo-ann Misiekaba, Deputy Director of the Tourism Directorate at the Ministry of TCT, emphasized that this initiative is not only aimed at attracting new investors but also at generating interest in the tourism sector. Tourism plays a crucial role in the sustainable economic, social, and ecological development of Suriname. This fact has been repeatedly emphasized by various stakeholders in the sector.

To maximize the diversity and richness of Suriname’s tourism offerings, there will be close collaboration with all ten districts of the country.

Each district will have the freedom to create unique concepts that reflect their local highlights and cultural treasures.

The Ministry is currently working on finalizing the Tourism Month Calendar, which will include activities from all the districts. Individuals and organizations planning to organize events in September and wish to be included in the calendar can contact their respective district commissioner or send a notification via the Ministry’s official Facebook page: Facebook.com/Surinametravelnow.

Ruben Forster, who works at the Tourism Directorate, explained that while September has been declared ‘Tourism Month’, the real value of this initiative lies in the positive effects it will generate. The goal is to raise awareness about what can be found and enjoyed in Suriname.

In connection with the upcoming World Tourism Day on September 27th, the Ministry has linked a theme to this day:
“Inspire the need for more and better-targeted investments for people, planet, and prosperity.”
